My illness caused me to miss a statistics test Friday, so I have to make it up today.
I studied all last night, and wound up getting only about 5 hours of sleep. Plus the fact that I have to move my office this week... Again. They are making mine into a lab. yee-ha.
Baseball tryouts are tonight and tomorrow night. J and and were talking about plans for the season and such yesterday. This will be No.2's third season on this team. This year we are going down to a 9 man field, which means we are going to have an 11 man team vs. the 13 man team we've had in seasons past.
I know who is not coming back.
I know who is making it.
and I'm wondering... why are we even having the tryouts? We are going through the motions, and kids are coming with the hopes of getting a shot at this select team, and the truth of it is that the team has already been selected.
I suppose if one really special kid shows up and just wows us, we will be making room for him, but at someone else's expense.
The thing is, my kid doesn't even have to show up, and he's making the team. He has solidified himself as one of the key players on this team.
Is it fair? In the eyes of some, no. Some may think it's because I'm one of the coaches. But through diligence, and hard work and dedication he has earned that kind of respect. It has nothing to do with me. No.2 is a class act. The kids that are not coming back, or are questionable, we have had problems with them, and not just with their play on the field, but attitude in the dugout as well.
I love the game. This and Football season are my favorite times of the year, but I must admit, the politics of it all gets to me, even at this age.
