Ending the season on a high note...

For the last 5 days, No.2 has been finishing off his baseball season in the Tipp city tournament. I was going give all the detail about what happened, but the head coach already did and I don’t like to be redundant. Enjoy!

Parents, players, coaches, board members, congratulations on winning the 12 year old Northern Division (11 good teams in the North) of the DMBA. I picked up our trophies today. In addition to that, we won the Tipp City tournament. Here are the highlights of the tournament.

Tipp City Tournament Highlights – Our Road to the Championship

Beavercreek Sox-1

11 July – 14 July 2002

Game 1: Vandalia beat Sox-1 by a score of 4 to 3. Vandailia was “awarded” a run in the 6th inning of the game with 1 out on a balk that occurred the previous inning. Umpires had stated at the start of the game that there would be one balk warning per pitcher, so when the balk occurred with a runner on third, the pitcher was given a “warning”. After we got out of the inning with no runs scoring and was in the last inning of the game with one out, the Board decided that the run should have scored and awarded it. The umpiring crew did not agree but they were also over-ruled.

Game 2: Sox-1 beat Greenville by a score of 10 to 8. Great win since this is a good team and the team that beat us in the Championship game the previous year when it was called due to lightning.

Game 3: Sox-1 beat Sox-2 by a score of 11 to 0. Great defense and hitting won this game.

Game 4: Sox-1 beat Tipp City Riverdawgs by a score of 5 to 4. Obviously we did not get any calls in this one since this is their tournament. The strike zone was extremely small when we were pitching, so we earned this one the hard way.

Game 5: Sox-1 beat Huber Heights by a score of 6 to 5. They were loaded with pick-up players and were stacked. This game was for 2nd Place trophies and we took them.

Game 6: Sox-1 beat Troy Reds by a score of 4 to 3. Troy, already a very good team, had picked up a few very talented players for this tournament and looked to be the odds on favorite to win it all. This was only their 4th game since they were still in the winner’s bracket. They pitched their best and wanted to win this one badly, but we played great defense and successfully pitched around their big hitters.

Game 7: Sox-1 beat Troy Reds by a score of 9 to 6. This game was for First Place. Troy looked tired and we looked ready to go even though this was our 4th game of the day. We jumped on them in the 1st inning by scoring 4 runs. Troy tried hard the rest of the game but could not recover. We won the First Pace trophies and did it coming out of the loser’s bracket and beating Troy two straight games; a very difficult task to accomplish.

No.2 roamed center field and covered ground from the left foul line to the right foul line. Actually got to the ball on the left field line to get the ball in quickly to stop a run from scoring. Also, pitched in the last three games of the tournament and when we needed a good arm, he stepped forward and got the job done in a fantastic way. Hit a home run and a double that sparked the team when we played Sox-2. His hustle speaks for itself.

Later,

Rick
