The weekend in Cleveland

The air conditioning in my office is not working. It’s like 90 degrees in here. They leave it off all weekend, and then turn it on at 5:00 am Monday morning. There is so much residual heat from the 98 degree days we had over the weekend that it can’t recover. Wha!

The weekend was interesting. No.1 and I left for Cleveland at 7:00 pm, and got there at about 10:00 pm. It was a nice uneventful drive. We talked to my mom for a little bit, and turned in.

Saturday, we both went over to best man’s house. This was the first time No.1 accompanied me over there. Best man has just about every musical instrument available in this little back room he has. No.1 didn’t realize he had so much. We had 3 of us, and before long we were all jamming together. No.1 knows some piano, so we got a little blues jam going, and he was having fun. Lately, he has been nagging me that he wants to learn to play the drums. Well, best man was able to accommodate him. He set up his drum kit, and taught him some basics beats. I picked up the bass, he got on guitar, and my son was playing drums.

Momma sang bass… Papa sang tenor…

It was kind of surreal; jamming with my son. He was having the time of his life. And now, I’m shopping for a drum kit.

Saturday night my brother and his pseudo girlfriend came over with the dogs. We had some dinner together, and talked for a while. It was nice to catch up. He asked me to give him a call when I was in town next week. I nearly fell over.

Sunday morning I went to the church where Cheryl and met. I haven’t been attending there for 4 years now. I haven’t visited in 2 years. The church was started in 1976 in the living room of someone’s home with about 12 people. This is what they have now. Not only did we meet here, but we got married, and all 3 of our children were dedicated here.

When we got to the church, some old friends immediately told me that they were voting on a new pastor that morning. Pastor Bunney, after nearly 45 years of ministry is retiring. I was truly taken aback. Apparently he had a stroke back in February. He had recovered fully, but he found that it was getting difficult to lead the church as he once did, and it was time to step down.

I spoke with him, and he explained to me everything that was going on. I later found out that a couple that Cheryl and I were good friends with had gotten divorced. It was quite a trip.

I managed to get home in time Sunday afternoon to see No.2 win his 3rd 1st place trophy for the tournament he played in over the weekend. He has two weeks off, and then football starts.

Poor guy… he’s needing a vacation.

Later,

Rick
